Trying to work out the amount you could win when placing a bet can be tricky, and so we've put together a table to show you the outcomes of placing a £2 stake at a number of different odds.

For each set of odds, you can see how much you would win (or lose) if you were to lay the stake to win, or as an each way (e/w) bet. Remember - a £1 each way bet means that you are betting £1 to win, and another £1 for a place, giving a total of a £2 stake.

The amount you would win for a 'place' on an each way bet will vary, depending on the type of sport. In horseracing, it depends on the number of runners and the type of race, with the place fraction being either 1/4 or 1/5, and the number of places from 2 to 4.

In our example we have used a place fraction of 1/4; a place fraction of 1/5 would give you a smaller return. See our Each Way guide for more information.
